These technologies include Utility Analytics systems and Monitoring-based Commissioning. Utility Analytics

Utility Analytics help owners track, understand, and visualize their building performance data at the highest ROI. Our analytic monitoring systems give precise data on facilities’ performance standards to better understand their overall energy efficiency. This data helps us create systems and methods to move facilities to a more efficient system.

Utility Data Automation

We use Utility Data Automation for buildings smaller than 50,000 square feet. UDA retrieval and storage systems ensure error-free and timely data entry for facilities. This data automatically integrates into our Energy Star Portfolio Manager, a web-based dashboard for portfolio comparison, visualization, and reporting. We also prepare a monthly email that includes the data, interpretations, analytics, and recommended next steps to save money and reduce energy use.

Utility Analytics

Our Utility Analytics systems are used for buildings larger than 50,000 square feet or as a next step for facilities that have implemented energy efficiency measures. UA includes all steps of UDA with additional tracking methods. We use pre-project utility data to determine building’s baseline energy usage. We then implement strategies to decrease gas and electric use and calculate savings normalized for independent variables. Our analytics software easily uncovers any anomalies and alarming trends, and we then move forward in establishing a framework to reduce overall costs and save energy.

    Monitoring-based Commissioning

    Sitton increases facility efficiency through the Commissioning (Cx), Retro-Commissioning (RCx), and Monitoring-Based Commissioning (MBCx) processes. Our commissioning processes are unique in that all are backed by analytics, which helps us save clients money and ensure their facilities run at their full potential.

    Monitoring-Based Commissioning

    Monitoring-based commissioning is a portfolio-wide platform that uses system data and analytics technology to optimize facilities’ commissioning or retro-commissioning processes. MBCx allows Sitton to monitor facility’s performance to maintain and improve its energy use and save our clients money over time. The MBCx program is designed to efficiently identify facility performance degradation. Without a program in place, buildings’ energy waste increases 20 percent within five years of the Cx or RCx efforts.

    All buildings experience energy drift, the gradual change in total energy of a closed system over time. Our MBCx program identifies these changes so we can maintain and change the systems to optimize savings. Implementing an MBCx program yields an initial savings of eight to twelve percent and increases over time. Implementing our MBCx program also yields lower operation and maintenance costs and an increase in occupant health, comfort, and productivity.

    MBCx During Commissioning (Cx) and Retro-commissioning (RCx)

    While MBCx implies ongoing “monitoring,” it is important to integrate the process into any Cx or RCx. The MBCx software allows full coverage of systems and equipment in the most cost-effective way; without MBCx, full coverage is cost-prohibitive. Additional value is delivered during Cx by having monitoring in place during the warranty period while all contractors are still engaged.
